Mary Ann Scadding

Whitbourne Ceramics

In the early 70’s I attended a BA Hons Graphic Design Course at Norwich School of Art.  After leaving Art School I worked as a knitting pattern designer at Emu Wools in London.

In 1978 I moved to Whitbourne Hall in Herefordshire with my family, and for the first few years we spent most of the time renovating/rebuilding our apartment.

When my children were older I attended a MA Visual Communication course at the University of Central England where I specialised in 3D illustration.

I attended Pottery Evening Classes at Worcester and Malvern College and this re-kindled my interest in pottery, which had started at Tech College years before.

Since then I have set up my own workshop with a gas kiln (kindly given to me by mother) and have been making pots of all shapes and sizes.

My workshop was opened to the public for H.Art (Herefordshire Art Week) in the years 2011 to 2018. Work exhibited as part of the Small Works exhibition at The Chapel Gallery in Bromyard in 2019. My ceramics were displayed as part of Bromyard Artwalk in 2018 & 2019.  Work exhibited and for sale at The Spotty Dog Tea Room and Gallery in Tenbury Wells and The Bromyard Heritage Centre.

My interests are: developing my ceramic ideas, gardening and knitting.
