COLIN SIMMONDS

I have always been interested in a wide variety of subject matter, from early, simple still-life groups to extensive townscapes of Birmingham and Kidderminster and panoramic landscapes of Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Domestic scenes have also appealed to me, resulting in portraits of the family and local people and friends.

I see landscape painting as the vehicle for exploring the full range of painterly ideas, involving the questioning of emotional responses to atmosphere, colour and composition (and the arranging of these on the canvas) through the use of expressive paintwork, rich tonal colours and rhythmic drawing.

I currently live in Stoke Lacy, Herefordshire, surrounded by rolling countryside and apple orchards, and a fortunate combination of farmhouse and studio has proven ideal for working and displaying my paintings.
